Lockheed Martin and COWI Team to Reduce Energy and Water Usage at Government Facilities Around the World

ROCKVILLE, Md., 09/30/2010 --

Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] and Danish environmental and engineering consulting company COWI today announced an agreement to explore opportunities to help countries reduce energy costs and environmental impact through increased energy efficiency, water conservation, and increased use of renewable energy at government-owned facilities worldwide.

Initially, the companies will pursue projects under the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC) Program. Lockheed Martin is one of 16 companies approved by the United States Department of Energy to compete to help the U.S. Federal government make energy and water improvements to federally-owned facilities, including Department of Defense and State Department assets around the world.

Through this agreement with COWI, Lockheed Martin seeks to further enhance the range of services and solutions that it currently offers the government, specifically in the area of centrally generating electricity, cooling and heating and distributing it to individual users. COWI also brings much expertise in managing energy efficiency programs for buildings and industry.

The companies were introduced to each other's capabilities at the Confederation of Danish Industry's (DI) Green Partnerships events, which connected Danish and American energy, clean tech and sustainable development companies looking for international partnerships.

The U.S. Federal Energy Management Program assists federal agencies in identifying alternative financing options to implement energy efficiency, water conservation and renewable energy projects. Under an ESPC contract vehicle, Lockheed Martin and its partners would conduct a comprehensive energy audit and identify improvements that will save energy at a facility, design and construct a project that meets the agency's needs, and help arrange financing to pay for it. Projects under this program are required to generate savings sufficient to cover annual financing cost and generate positive annual cash flow to the government after financing obligations are retired.
