Lockheed Martin Opens New Facility In Baltimore County

Woodlawn, Md., 04/20/2009 -- Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] today unveiled a new facility in Baltimore County, Md., to support its federal contract work with the Social Security Administration.

The new offices at 1506 Woodlawn Drive in Woodlawn will house 278 information technology professionals who will be supporting a broad spectrum of services related to agency systems modernization efforts. These efforts are prompted by health IT needs as SSA responds to the service demands of the many people it serves – retirees, disabled Americans, Medicare recipients, and the increased number of aging baby boomers entering the system.

The company currently is planning to hire160 new employees to support this effort. The skills required include strategic planning, service oriented architecture, project management, health IT, software design and development, information assurance, database management, information technology systems operations and human factors engineering.

Lockheed Martin will occupy 41,566 square feet of an existing office building located at 1506 Woodlawn Boulevard in Woodlawn, Md. Employees have begun moving into the facility, and it should be at full capacity by May 11, according to company officials.

In a ceremony today at the new facility, Executive Vice President Linda Gooden of Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Services was joined by Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith and others to open the building officially by cutting a ribbon draped across the doors. They were joined by SSA, Congressional, state, and county officials at the 11 a.m. event.

Ms. Gooden said, "We express our many thanks to all those who have helped make this partnership with our SSA customer a reality. These include the many government agencies represented here today, the good people of the greater Baltimore area, the colleges and universities, and our employees who every day prove they can deliver on our promises better and more successfully. We are proud to continue supporting the agency as it strives to meet the needs of so many Americans."
