Cummings Aerospace Demonstrates Technical Excellence with an Efficient Mindset
Cummings Aerospace provides critical engineering services to the Lockheed Martin Targets and Countermeasures Program in support of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) – a program which provides unarmed targets designed to represent adversary missiles. These targets allow realistic testing of the weapon systems associated with the Ballistic Missile Defense System. Cummings Aerospace contributes to the design and development of the complex extended medium-range ballistic missile air-launched target system and the development of the next generation system.
“The program requires unique set of technical skill sets in order to develop and test high-fidelity target systems. As threats evolve, the system must likewise evolve,” says James B. McCurry, chief scientist for the Targets and Countermeasures Program, Lockheed Martin Space Systems. “It is difficult to find qualified small businesses that have the unique engineering and launch operations skills. Cummings Aerospace is one of a few small businesses that possess personnel with the requisite engineering and operations skill sets,” says McCurry.
Cummings Aerospace, a women-owned small business located in Huntsville, Ala., began partnering with Lockheed Martin in 2010. Since then the firm has become a proven valued partner to Lockheed Martin based on its technical expertise and affordability. “Cummings is very responsive and can provide skilled engineers in an as-needed manner, which is also crucial in helping Lockheed Martin deal with the dynamic nature of Defense Department funding,” says McCurry.
Through this relationship, Cummings Aerospace has expanded its engineering competencies and customer past performance, which are key elements to future growth. “Our business relationship with Lockheed Martin has contributed significantly to our corporate growth to date, resulting in the hire of 12 employees across our Huntsville and Orlando operating locations,” says Sheila Cummings, president and chief executive officer, Cummings Aerospace. Cummings Aerospace has provided essential technical expertise, across multiple programs, necessary to achieve mission success.
Cummings Aerospace was founded in 2009 and, in just a short timeframe, has become a leading provider of high-value engineering solutions for complex systems in the aerospace, defense and intelligence industry. The company’s core competencies are in End-to-End Systems Engineering, Modeling and Simulation (M&S), Software Engineering, Test Planning and Execution, and Quality, Safety & Mission Assurance (QSMA).
