Energy Labs

Lockheed Martin is a premier provider of energy, security and sustainability solutions for federal and commercial customers. Lockheed Martin is a major contractor to the Department of Energy and a leading research and development company to the federal government.

The Hanford Site

For the Department of Energy, Lockheed Martin supports one of the world’s most challenging environmental cleanup projects at the Hanford site in Richland, Wa. As part of the Mission Support Alliance, Lockheed Martin provides integrated site-wide services for the Hanford site, including safety, security and environment, site infrastructure and utilities, site business management and information resources. We have helped the Hanford site reduce infrastructure costs by more than $220 million.

We have helped generate an energy savings of 80% through initiatives such as automation of 6.5 million electronic records, the migration of nine data centers to two, and desktop virtualization.

Sandia National Labs

Sandia National Laboratories

Sandia National Laboratories is a national security laboratory managed and operated by Sandia Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin.  Since 1993, Sandia Corporation has expanded the lab’s breadth as a multiprogram laboratory that sustains, modernizes, and secures the U.S. nuclear stockpile; supplies new defense capabilities; ensures a stable energy supply; protects the nation’s infrastructure; and reduces the global threat of weapons of mass destruction.

Pantex Plant and Y12 National Security Complex

Consolidated Nuclear Security (CNS), of which Lockheed Martin is a member, manages and operates the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas, and Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Both programs are key facilities in the U.S. Nuclear Security Enterprise, charged with maintaining the safety, security, and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile.

Community Connection and Commitments

We have a legacy of community partnership, including opportunities to promote the growth of the local labs by investing millions in future scientific and engineering talent through Lockheed Martin’s science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education outreach. Lockheed Martin has been a part of numerous community projects and volunteers groups with all of our DOE contracts, from supporting Science Bowls, United Way, March of Dimes to Habitat for Humanity.

Our senior program management leadership encourages and supports all of our employees to get involved no matter where they live.  Our employees enjoy the challenging mission-centric work, a sense of community, and the benefits of local universities.

Established University Alliances

We have a strong history of university and academic partnership. Lockheed Martin has partnerships with more than 100 universities across the country and around the world. For example, Lockheed Martin has established a biometric scholarship program for West Virginia University, where we have provided scholarship funding to foster innovation in biometrics through a “Lockheed Martin Biometrics White Paper Challenge.”
