Edgewood Children’s Ranch Receives Makeover During Lockheed Martin’s United Way Day of Caring

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 10, 2015 – Today, more than 1,300 Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) employees, family members and friends renovated Edgewood Children’s Ranch as part of United Way’s annual Day of Caring. Lockheed Martin volunteers completed more than 70 projects in an effort to revitalize the organization’s 110-acre grounds.

Volunteers worked together to enhance Edgewood Children’s Ranch through projects that included painting, landscaping, carpentry services and improvements to the softball field and obstacle course. The teams also built an outdoor kitchen, canoe rack shelter, fire pit and cleaned the shore line of Lake Hiawassee. Lockheed Martin volunteers will return to Edgewood Children’s Ranch later this month for a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) day, dedicated to showing the teens how STEM is used in business and encouraging them to consider careers in these fields.

“Day of Caring gives our employees, friends and loved ones a chance to unite for a common mission – to help improve the lives of others in our communities,” said Frank St. John, vice president of Orlando operations at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. “This year, we focused on making a difference for the boys and girls living at Edgewood Children’s Ranch. Through our actions, we hope to inspire them to pursue careers related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”

Last year, Lockheed Martin’s Florida employees logged more than 130,000 volunteer hours, and those in Central Florida donated more than $1 million to United Way through the employee giving campaign, which supports 40 agencies and 400,000 individuals locally.

“Together, we have the ability to make a substantial impact on our local community throughout the year,” said Jon Rambeau, vice president and general manager of training and logistics solutions at Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training. “Lockheed Martin employees and families take every opportunity throughout the year to make a positive influence on our local community.”
