KALE AERO Delivers First Turkish Components for Aegis Combat System

KALE AERO Becomes First Turkish Supplier for Aegis Combat System

Turkey’s KALE HAVACILIK SANAYİ A.Ş (KALE AERO) has delivered the first order of Turkish-built components to Lockheed Martin’s Aegis Combat System in fulfillment of a contract announced in 2014. KALE AERO will continue to produce mechanical systems for Aegis through 2015 and 2016. The first order was for 31 systems, and another 48 systems are expected at a later date, in track with the contract schedule. These systems are a vital part of the Aegis Baseline 9 computing suite being developed for the newest U.S. Navy destroyers and the land-based Aegis Ashore ballistic missile defense system.

“We are pleased to have begun receiving product deliveries from KALE AERO,” said Doug Wilhelm, director of International Programs at Lockheed Martin. “This reinforces the confidence we have in KALE AERO – and Turkish industry more broadly – to support our critical Aegis program. We believe that our work with KALE AERO has started a new era of cooperation with Turkey in naval systems.”

At the 12th IDEF International Defense Industry Fair, Lockheed Martin representatives met with KALE AERO leaders to discuss the status of the contract, and to plan for future cooperation together.

“We are proud of the opportunity to be a part of the Aegis program. We know the high standards established for Aegis, and we are certain that KALE AERO can meet them,” said Osman Okyay, President of KALE’s Technical Division.  “We look forward to continued opportunities to grow our role as we prove ourselves, as we have done in cooperation with Lockheed Martin on other programs.”

KALE AERO is one of the defense and aerospace component of the KALE Group, an industrial conglomerate of Turkey’s leading companies.  KALE AERO specializes in the research, design, and manufacture of complex aero-structures, fuselage parts, and other defense items. Previously, KALE AERO has supported Lockheed Martin in the production of components for the Army Tactical Missile System, Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter programs. KALE AERO has been recognized as a Lockheed Martin Star Supplier since 2004.

The multi-mission Aegis Combat System is trusted by governments and navies around the world. Rooted in more than 40 years of success, Aegis has evolved into a worldwide network, encompassing nine active baselines and seven ship classes in five countries.
