In January 2014, the US Air Force exercised a contract modification on the Essential Parts Replacement Program (EPRP) to purchase 13 sets of Field Maintenance Equipment Kits.  These kits provide “spare single point failure items” in support of AN/FPS-117 radar site modernizations currently ongoing in Canada, Alaska, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and Hill Air Force Base, UT.

These kits contain key components to the already upgraded radar systems in Canada and Alaska and will be used as the primary spare components for the systems while the US Air Force implements the FPS-117 provisioning.

Lockheed Martin expedited the delivery of the Field Maintenance Equipment Kits to the various locations in order to ensure the customer had timely supplies it would need for the upgraded radars.  The kits were delivered in early December 2014, well ahead of the original contractual date of the end of July 2015.

Lockheed Martin has produced and maintains more than 175 surveillance-range radars, all of which are operational around the world detecting targets at ranges up to 250 miles, 24 hours a day.  These radars are capable of operating completely unmanned and many have performed for decades in remote, inhospitable areas and in a wide range of operational environments.  No radar has ever been taken out of service and systems continue to operate well beyond their original 20-year service lives (many planned to operate for more than 40 years).  This longevity is a direct result of continuous Lockheed Martin investment in state-of-the-art technology and dedication to customer success.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs approximately 113,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation’s net sales for 2013 were $45.4 billion.
