GOVERNMENT - Why the F-22?
Modernizing the TACAIR Force
Lockheed Martin and its industry teammates have been entrusted with and are committed to affordably transforming a 30-year-old U.S. legacy fighter force of F-15, F-16, F/A-18
(A-D), AV-8B and A-10 aircraft. The all-stealth, all-weather force of F-22s and F-35s that replace these aircraft will ensure U.S. dominance for decades to come.
The unique, complementary mission capabilities of the F-22 and F-35 are required to defeat the most formidable air-to-air and surface-to-air threats, enable unimpeded 24-hour-a-day
access to targets from day one and form a more lethal, flexible and survivable force for sustained engagement. This will substantially reduce the risk to U.S. and allied
personnel and shorten future conflicts.
- The F-22 Raptor will focus on battlespace dominance through uncompromised performance – both air-to-air and air-to-ground
- The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter will provide an affordable, persistent force in large numbers for the USAF, USN, USMC and partner countries
The Raptor and the Joint Strike Fighter bring a transformational synergy to the battlefield that is unparalleled in history.
